Privacy Policy

FoundersJP (the “Site”) is run by its author, Henry. This page explains what information the Site processes, why, and what you can do about it. If you have questions, or want to exercise the rights below, write to privacy [at] foundersjp [dot] com.

What the Site processes

  • Access logs: the Site is hosted on Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare, as the network service provider, processes your IP address, browser information and the requested URL to deliver the service and to protect against attacks. The Site has no user accounts and does not link these records to you.
  • Short link clicks: when you open a foundersjp.com/s/… short link, only click counts (a total and a daily count) are stored. No IP address or other personal information is recorded, and crawler and link-preview requests are not counted.
  • Visit statistics: the Site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people read which pages, where they come from (referring site, country or region) and how fast pages load. It is provided by Cloudflare, uses no cookies and does not track you across sites; the Site does not build profiles of individual visitors. If you are in the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland (or your location cannot be determined), the analytics script is loaded only after you consent; elsewhere it is loaded by default, unless your browser sends a GPC signal or you choose “Decline” in “Cookie settings”.
  • Local browser settings: your theme, language, animation preference and your choices about comments and visit statistics are stored only in your own browser and are not sent to the Site. See Cookies and Local Storage.
  • Site search: search runs in your browser. Your search terms are not sent to the Site or to third parties.

Comments (Giscus and GitHub)

Comments are provided by Giscus. They are stored in GitHub Discussions in a public repository (kiki-theone/tictak-giscus).

  • If you are in the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland (or your location cannot be determined), the giscus.app script is loaded only after you allow comments (through the consent banner or the “Allow and load comments” button). Elsewhere it is loaded by default when you open an article, unless your browser sends a GPC signal or you have chosen “Decline”. When it loads, your browser sends requests to giscus.app and GitHub, which include technical information such as your IP address.
  • Posting a comment requires signing in with a GitHub account. Your comment, GitHub username and avatar are shown publicly and can be seen by anyone.
  • These services are run by third parties and are covered by their own privacy policies. You can switch to “Decline” at any time through “Cookie settings” in the footer, and a loaded comment box will be removed.

Machine translation

Some language versions are translated by DeepL. Only the article text is translated, at site build time; no visitor information is involved. See Machine Translation Notice.

Advertising

The Site shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies or similar technologies in your browser to serve and measure ads, and may show personalized ads based on your browsing. Your browser then sends requests to Google that include technical information such as your IP address and browser details. The Site does not collect this advertising data itself and cannot read Google’s cookies.

  • If you are in the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google’s consent tool asks for your choice first, and personalized ads are not shown without your consent. You can change your choice at any time through the privacy settings provided by Google’s consent tool.
  • Elsewhere, you can turn off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings.
  • For how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see Google’s explanation and Google’s Privacy Policy.

Emailing the Site

When you write to the Site, your email address and message are processed only to reply to you and handle your request. Email is forwarded to the author through Cloudflare Email Routing.

  • Loading comments and visit statistics: your consent if you are in the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland; elsewhere, the legitimate interest in providing the comment feature and understanding how the Site is used, which you can object to through “Cookie settings” or a GPC signal.
  • Advertising: your consent given through Google’s consent tool if you are in the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland; elsewhere, Google handles ad data under its own Privacy Policy, and you can control personalized ads in Google Ads Settings.
  • Running the Site and keeping it secure: the legitimate interest in operating a website.
  • Comments stay on GitHub until they are deleted. Ad-related data is kept for the period Google sets in its own Privacy Policy. Emails are kept for as long as needed to handle your request.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal information, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. Visitors elsewhere can also make requests about their personal information. Write to privacy [at] foundersjp [dot] com.

To delete your own comment you can do so directly on GitHub, or contact the Site by email.
